Melanie Pepper: Wild at Heart

Melanie Pepper never held a gun until she was 40 years old, but now as a “Mimi,” she’s one of the most accomplished hunters in the world. She previously served on the NRA Women’s Leadership Forum Executive Committee and is an NRA Board Member.

SCI Diana Award Winner

Melanie Pepper has been honored with the prestigious Safari Club International Diana Award, hunted everywhere from Alaska to Zambia, and worked tirelessly to pass the hunting tradition on to future generations both through conservation and youth education classes. It may surprise you that the 17th recipient of the Diana Award, who had her wedding on an African hunt, never picked up a gun until she was 40 years old. After she began though, it was clear that the sport was in her blood. In many of her hunting excursions now, she is respected as being the only woman in her safari camps.

A Natural Huntress

Once Melanie got started, however, it was clear that the sport was in her blood. She grew up in San Antonio with a father and brother who hunted, but it was her husband John who took her hunting for the first time. Melanie joined John on his land in San Antonio and watched him hunt. After being in a deer stand, and shooting her first deer, she realized that this was the sport for her. These humble beginnings took her to adventurous locales and treacherous terrain around the globe. Melanie previously served on the NRA Women’s Leadership Forum Executive Committee and she is an NRA Board Member.
